The second installment of the Captain Marvel series, The Marvels, continues the adventures of Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) and is primarily targeted toward teenage and young adult female audiences. The film attempts to deliver a light and fun story, but suffers from several issues that impact its overall quality.

The story follows Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Paris), and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) as they face a new threat requiring teamwork. While the film starts engagingly, it loses momentum in the final third, with events becoming predictable and somewhat silly. Character development is minimal, and the villain is notably one of the weakest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Iman Vellani’s performance as Kamala Khan stands out as the most charismatic and energetic, essentially carrying the spirit of the film. Brie Larson and Teyonah Paris also deliver solid performances, but their impact is limited by weak writing.

Samuel L. Jackson’s role is largely wasted, confined to delivering a few jokes and exposition without meaningful contribution or memorable moments.
Visual effects fall short of Marvel’s usual high standards, with some sequences appearing incomplete or unfinished. The editing is uneven at times, resulting in a choppy narrative flow.

The villain’s weakness is a major flaw, diminishing the tension and reducing the story’s stakes. This makes the conflicts feel less compelling and the overall plot less engaging.
Overall, The Marvels is moderately entertaining, mainly suitable for family viewing with children or fans of Marvel’s female-led stories.
