The animated series Marvel Zombies offers a different experience set in another parallel universe within the Marvel Cinematic Universe—one where a zombie outbreak, originally caused by Hank Pym in the Quantum Realm, spreads into this alternate reality. The series serves as a direct continuation of one of the episodes from Season One of What If…?. It consists of four short episodes, all currently available on Disney+.

The story follows a group of surviving Marvel heroes in a world overrun by a zombie virus. The narrative primarily centers on Ms. Marvel’s journey in this universe as she attempts to save it from the outbreak—she is undoubtedly the heart of the series. On the opposing side stands Wanda Maximoff, portrayed as the Zombie Queen and the main antagonist confronting the heroes. The show also features appearances by several well-known Marvel characters, including Blade, Spider-Man, Thanos, and others.

Structurally, the series benefits from a smooth and logical progression across its four episodes. It contains several strong dramatic moments, particularly those tied to Ms. Marvel’s arc and key developments involving Red Guardian. However, despite the short runtime of each episode, the overall pacing feels noticeably slow, which may leave some viewers disengaged.
The show is marketed as a more mature, horror-oriented entry within Marvel’s lineup. Unfortunately, the horror elements are quite limited, and the comedic tone frequently overshadows the darker atmosphere, reducing the level of tension that such a premise demands. For me, the highlight of the series lies in its epic action sequences, which are impressively choreographed and directed. The ending is somewhat ambiguous, yet it clearly leaves room for a potential second season.

Overall, the series delivers a decent experience for Marvel fans, but it falls short of satisfying those seeking a truly intense horror story. In truth, Marvel missed a valuable opportunity to fully embrace the horror potential of this concept, instead leaning too heavily into comedy.
My personal rating for the series is:
6.5/10
