Thunderbolts represents a bold and distinct step in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, delivering a story that dives deeply into psychological conflicts, making it one of Marvel’s strongest films in recent years. Its standout feature is its courage to break from traditional Marvel formulas, addressing sensitive and serious themes such as depression, anxiety, and internal struggles, especially through Sentry/Void and Yelena Belova, while balancing these moments with well-timed humor that does not undermine the emotional weight.

The action sequences are generally stunning, featuring realistic combat without overreliance on visual effects until the final third of the film. Florence Pugh as Yelena delivers a career-best performance in Marvel, while Lewis Pullman shines in portraying the complex dynamic between Sentry and Foyd, highlighting Sentry’s immense powers alongside his psychological struggles. These two characters form the emotional core of the film, with performances and character arcs that deeply resonate. David Harbour’s Red Guardian provides comic relief that complements rather than diminishes the film’s serious themes.

Despite a large ensemble, the film successfully gives each character adequate development, including action sequences tailored to them, which enriches the story and enhances engagement. While the pacing occasionally slows, the film recaptures the thrill of Marvel’s pre-Infinity War and Endgame era. Its innovative storytelling and meticulous plotting lay the groundwork for the future of the MCU.

The ending is a true surprise, clarifying the reason for the asterisk (*) in the title and setting up a thrilling future for the MCU. Two post-credits scenes further heighten anticipation: one humorous, the other critical for upcoming stories.

Overall, Thunderbolts revitalizes Marvel excitement, not just through its unique story and characters, but also through its clever setup for the future. A must-watch for Marvel fans.
