Captain America: Brave New World is one of the political action films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, attempting to recapture the tone of Captain America: The Winter Soldier with a spy-thriller plot full of intrigue. The film emphasizes that heroism isn’t limited to those with superpowers; anyone with determination and resolve can be a hero.

One of the film’s highlights is Harrison Ford’s performance as the Red Hulk, which adds weight to the story and strengthens the overall impact. There’s also good chemistry between Sam Wilson and Joaquin Torres, giving certain scenes a fun, dynamic energy. The film makes a credible effort to justify Sam’s worthiness of the Captain America mantle, even though he differs significantly from Steve Rogers in background, fighting style, and approach to responsibility.

One of the strongest moments comes in the anticipation leading up to the final battle, particularly with President Ross’s transformation into Red Hulk. This sequence adds substantial excitement to the plot and serves as a major draw for fans who have been waiting to see Red Hulk in the MCU. It’s also worth noting that the film connects closely with The Incredible Hulk and the series Falcon and the Winter Soldier, making it an important installment for character and story development within the MCU.

Despite its overall strengths, the film doesn’t reach the level of previous Captain America movies, which featured tighter plots and more compelling storylines. The story here feels fairly ordinary in comparison, lacking the depth and emotional resonance of its predecessors, making it at times feel more like a bridge to the next phase of the MCU than a standalone narrative.

Some technical issues also impacted the experience. Certain visual effects appear weak, likely due to additions or reshoots, which affect the film’s visual consistency. Editing is another weak point, with some transitions feeling awkward and disrupting the narrative flow.

Another potential issue for viewers is the inclusion of poorly executed comedic moments. Some jokes feel out of place in the film’s serious political tone, pulling viewers out of the story rather than adding lightness or charm.

In conclusion, Captain America: Brave New World is a solid film, but it falls short of the standard set by earlier Captain America movies. While it delivers exciting moments—especially involving Red Hulk—its story, visual effects, editing, and misfired humor reduce its overall impact. Our rating for the film is:

6/10
