The film marks a successful return for the long-dormant series, absent from theaters for over a decade. It delivers everything fans of the franchise love—gruesome accidents and extreme gore—and will also appeal to general horror enthusiasts through a plot that is different yet connected to previous installments. These films rely on excessive gore rather than deep storytelling or complex characters, which is precisely the franchise’s strength: delivering shock and spectacle in its purest form.

As with prior films, the story unfolds across two different timelines. It begins with young Iris Campbell (Brec Bassinger) surviving a deadly accident during a date in the 1960s after receiving a vision warning her of the impending disaster. In the present day, her granddaughter, college student Stephanie Rice (Caitlin Santa Juana), experiences nightmares linked to her grandmother’s accident, propelling her on a journey to find Iris and uncover the terrifying prophecy threatening her and her family.

The film delivers some of the most intense and gory sequences in the franchise’s history, which remains its strongest point. Another notable strength is the introduction of new characters unconnected to previous films, though some characters’ histories remain tied to earlier stories. The only recurring character appearing in most franchise entries is Bludworth, portrayed by iconic horror actor Tony Todd, who sadly passed away last year. Bludworth remains the most compelling character in terms of performance and depth. The rest of the cast primarily serves as human “blood bags” for the film’s gruesome set pieces, yet this superficiality does not diminish the overall enjoyment.

This series is designed to be as gory and shocking as possible. Fans should not expect deep narrative arcs or memorable characters; instead, prepare for horrifying deaths and unpredictable ways of dying, which may even leave lingering impressions in everyday life. This film is not for the faint of heart.

Rating: 8/10
