The film attempts to position itself as a new addition to the Spider-Man universe, offering a story connected to the character while presenting a completely different perspective from previous related works. However, it is weighed down by numerous flaws that significantly diminish its overall quality and may cement it in comic-book movie history as one of the weakest entries in the genre.

Madame Web centers on Cassandra Webb (Dakota Johnson), a woman gifted with clairvoyant abilities that allow her to see the future. Unfortunately, the story is unclear and riddled with inconsistencies. The plot feels fragmented and poorly structured, neglecting the development of the supporting characters and making many events seem illogical. One of the film’s biggest shortcomings is the absence of meaningful action sequences for the other characters who are meant to become Spider-Women. They only assume their superhero identities in the final minutes of the film—contrary to what the marketing suggested—adding to the overall disappointment.

Dakota Johnson’s performance lacks emotional depth and charisma. The rest of the cast also delivers largely unconvincing performances, which further weakens the film. The villain stands out as one of the least compelling antagonists in recent comic-book cinema, lacking both presence and a clearly defined motivation.
The scenes and narrative progression feel awkward and inconsistent, which in turn makes the acting appear even weaker. Overall, the character of Madame Web—who is traditionally portrayed as a significant and almost cosmic figure within Marvel lore—feels completely wasted.

The direction lacks clarity, cohesion, and focus. While the visual effects are serviceable, they are far from impressive, especially when compared to the standards set by other Spider-Man films.
In the end, the film is an attempt to introduce a new storyline within the Spider-Man universe, but it ultimately fails to add anything meaningful and ranks among the weakest comic-book films in recent memory.
