Superman is a decent start for the new DC Universe. The film begins by giving a quick overview of the world before diving directly into conflict and action. The strongest aspect of the movie is the relationship between Clark Kent and Lois Lane, portrayed wonderfully and convincingly by David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. Perhaps the best depiction of their relationship in cinema to date.

David Corenswet impressed me greatly as Superman. His character was full of hope, radiating a positive and inspiring influence on everyone around him, including you as a viewer. The film shows how Superman inspires others to do good, and it also tackles political themes and their reflections on our modern world in a very smart way, linking them to Superman’s perspective on humanity and how humans perceive him. The movie also features great action sequences involving Superman and Mister Terrific, with Edi Gathegi delivering a fantastic performance in the role. For me, he is the third-best character in the film after Lois Lane and Superman.

For comic-book fans, the film takes several elements from the Silver Age, known for its humor and fantastical stories. Comic fans will appreciate this aspect, though the general audience may not understand many of these references due to the lack of explanation, which makes prior knowledge of Superman helpful for full enjoyment. As for the negatives, the biggest issue is the presence of silly, mistimed jokes and moments that undermine some of the film’s serious and dramatic scenes. The transitions between scenes are also sometimes uncoordinated, and the camera movement occasionally affects both the action scenes and the story’s pacing, which comes off chaotic and unorganized. Superman’s suit also has noticeable problems in several shots, and Hawkgirl was the weakest character in the film.

Despite these issues, the movie is still very enjoyable and carries beautiful human values and messages. I definitely recommend watching it in theaters. I also hope to see David Corenswet again in the DC Universe because he truly excelled in the role of Superman. As for the post-credit scenes, there are two, but they are ordinary and have no major impact on the DC Universe.

Overall, the film is good and ranks as the best DC movie of the past two years. Hopefully, future DC films will continue to improve.

Rating: 7/10
